any other moms who have children with Alopecia?

I had it. I was diagnosed with it in Grade 1. The MOST bizarre advice we got with the BEST results? This sounds totally weird and I know you won't believe it, and I have NO idea where it came from but COW SALIVA! Get a cow to lick your head...Crazy, absurd, and well kinda gross too, but I don't have it any more, I didn't have it when I went into Jr. High. I don't know when or how it went away and the docs were very surprised also.
My mom did a tremendous amount of research when I was diagnosed and somewhere that is what she read, amongst other things as well. For us, that was the cheapest easiest attempt at a cure or solution and we were all about to try everything. It's one thing when a boy is bald, but a girl! MAN! the little boys in my class were all shaving their heads anyways so I don't think that a boy would be have been as ostracized as a little girl would have been.

I do not have a child with Alopecia, but my husband has a form of it. He is very consciencious about it and keeps what hair he has closely shaved. At age 11, your son probably has a lot of other issues with it such as standing out in the crowd. Hats are an option, of course, but depending how teachers/ school counselors help you might want to go address the class or have your son address what makes him different. My son was born with a deformed ear and deafness on that side. We made it a point of addressing the whole class (yes, I had to talk to more than one classroom) and really helped.
