Hi, my name is Katarina and my family and I just moved to Roscoe. I have 2 sons, my oldest is nearly 4 and my younger is 14 months old. I used to have quite a few friends back home and now I feel quite lonely. And I think my children do too, especially my older son Daniel. We used to have a lot of playdates, birthday parties, trips and fun things to do back home. So basically, I'm just looking to meet other moms w/similar interests that live in Illinois near Rockford and the surrounding areas. So feel free to post a comment or inbox me, or whatever... hope to talk with, chat, meet you guys soon!! And anything you guys want to know, just ask! Have A Great Day Mommies!!!! =)

Hi Katarina, I live in Roscoe. I just came across your post as I am also looking to connect with mothers with younger children. Your oldest should be in school now so I hope you have connected with some of the mothers in the community.

Hi! My name is Denise, and my family and I also just moved here over the summer! We recently took over what was supposed to be my parents' retirement house, so I've actually been coming up to Roscoe for the past 3 years 1-2 times per month, but now we're officially here for good. I have 2 daughters, ages 4 and 7. I've been trying to search for meet-ups and what not, but I'm not always the best with trying to get out and meet others on my own. My husband works far from here so I'm on my own a lot of the time, and up until now, I taught 6th grade for 12 years, so this staying at home thing is very new for me. My girls are making friends at school, but my husband and I really haven't met too many people yet.

Online meetup is probably your best bet. Look for groups in your area. Good luck 😄

Hi Julia,

Thank you for your reply and all your advise. I will definetely try some of the things you've mentioned. At the moment I am a bit limited to what I can do as we have only one car and my husband uses it to get to and from work. It's a long story, but we should have another one soon. I thought I start looking for friends using this website and some others, thought I might be lucky and get to know someone from around here as there are a lot of houses around us and many with little playgrounds. We have a big playground just 10 minutes away ( walking) from our house, which I use nearly every day, but we haven't met anyone just yet. I will definitely try the library. i had a look on their website and they do children's story time and also baby and toddler one. It's 2 miles away, I'll just have to find a way how to get there walking.

Thank you again. X ;-)

I'm not in your area but when my son was born I didn't have any friends with kids in his age group. Some of the things I did...

Try meetup.com to look for play groups in your area.

Enroll your son in pre school even if only a couple days a week. He will meet kids and you will meet moms. If you are a SAHM look for a program that is only offered part time. It probably attracts other SAHMs. If you work use a child care facility that will attract like minded moms.

Check out your local library. They probably offer story times etc to meet other families. They also usually post other non library events.

Go to places moms hang out with kids like the playground, bounce play places, etc and chat up other moms.

Call and see if any of the following town or city offices run any play groups or mommy and me groups. The Department of Education, Park and Rec, Adult Education. They are likely to have recommendations even if they don't run groups.

Next year your son will go to Kindergarten and that will open up a whole new group of people.

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. Some of my closest mommy friends now are a woman at work who I barely knew until we had babies around the same time. A couple moms from my sons school and a mom down the street who was thinking of using the same child care program I used. The director saw we were a block from each other so she called me to ask if I would talk to her about the program and we became great friends. I joined every group I could find until I established a new social circle of moms with same age kids. It took time but now I have many wonderful new friends.
