My son is 5 yrs old and has been diagnosed with ADHD today. I am against using medication. I changed our grocery list and bought protein, canola oil with omega 3, apples, oranges, spinach, peanuts/ trail mixes as well as natural organic juices to eliminate food dyes. He is always on the go and has really bad case of not being able to focus and I'm feeling overwhelmed and extremely tired. What are some things that you have done to help slow them down and focus

My 6 y/o has ADHD and I'm the opposite - he takes medication and it has done wonders for him. I will not change my grocery list for something that can be control by medication. Good luck.

A. Russell you are fine. Everyone needs to vent and I feel like this site allows this. Thank you for commenting. The behavioral psychiatrist said if we were to do a medication he would try intunitiv. Or at least I think that's how you spell it. It's just hard trying to not get overwhelmed as a parent.

My son is now 21. He was diagnoced with ADHD when he was 8 years old. Hyper, distracted in class, extremely impulsive and was affecting his grades and citizenship. I tried the diet thing and I saw no improvement. I then tried Concerta. It helps with ADHD and is a drug that is time released. He took it once a day.it gradually wears off. He had a few stomach aches but it was rare. He slept fine, wan NOT lethargic, he seemed very focused and much calmer. He grades when up significantly. He stopped taking it when he was in High school. He wanted to see if he can try and focus on his own. His grades when way down, started smoking marijuana, and barely graduated from high school, thank goodness he did. He is now 21, struggling to keep or even get a job. The marijuana helps, but makes him lazy. He went through many job interviews and was hired pending drug test. Of course, he did not pass test and still unemployed living at home. i have been enabling him for too long. He refuses to get help. He was recently kicked out for many reasons. I tried everything and i am going to have to wait until he is ready to help himself. Sorry i wrote more than you asked, i needed to vent. Good luck with your son!!
