My bet is that it is habit rather than hunger. Offer him water instead of milk and he will stop waking up after a few nights. Start by eliminating the last feeding, then move back from there.

Is he eating solids yet? Current recommendations for starting solids is 4-6 months. My daughter is 5 months old and already up to 3 jars of stage 2 foods a day; she LOVES it! She also still breastfeeds or has a bottle about 4 times a day. Since she eats so well during the day, she sleeps most of the night. About half the time, she will sleep through the night (7:30pm to 5 or 6am), and half the time she still wakes up at around 3am to eat. When she wakes up at 3, I don't feed her immediately, I try to soothe her back to sleep first and only feed her if she is really hungry (she's got this crazy head-jerking-spastic-arm-waving dance she does when she thinks she's starving). Definitely encourage your son to eat more during the day and also to sleep more in the day; if he's too tired he won't sleep well at night. A couple of 1-2 hour naps and eating every 2-3 hours during the day will help him get through the night easier.

try feeding him more throughout the day. My 2 month old daughter started sleeping through the night on her own about 3 weeks ago now. She eats ALOT more during the day, and will go 5-7 hours without eating at night. She also has one really long feed right before bed, she'll eat for about 45 minutes (I BF so I don't know how much in oz she is getting). Also try keeping the baby up a little bit more during the day, if s/he isn't napping as much during the day they will have to make up for lost sleep at night. Just don't overdo it, they do still need to get some sleep, just knock out a nap at a time till the baby is sleeping more.

How many bottles is the baby drinking? Sometimes adding a little rice cereal to the bedtime bottle helps keep your baby full longer. So they will sleep better through the night.
