I have a 9 month old daughter who has always been petite. At her 9 month checkup she was up to 14 lbs and 7.5 ounces. Height and Head measurements have always been great and developmentally she is right on target. Would love to talk to other moms who have gone through this before. I get so tired of everyone saying how little she is...

I have a nearly 10 year old who just hit 50 pounds. She was 6pds at birth but she just doesnt' grow much. The nice thing is you can carry them til - well I can still pick her up. The other great things are that you can buy really nice clothes because they don't grow out of them very quick. We have been in some shoes for over 2 years. We had a pair of velvet pants that I retired after 4 years because I couldn't stand to see them any longer. When people underestimate your kid and think they are younger then they are blown away when they can talk in full sentences, and such because they assumed the child was much younger than they actually were. We also enjoyed the fact that she could get in to our local amusement park til she hit 40 inches for $5 and she could also ride all the little kiddy rides longer.

We read stories like Molly Lou Mellon and listened to John Mayer "Bigger than my Body". She is still the smallest in class and has to take a booster on field trips but doesn't at all seem shamed or marred by it because she is proud of who she is.

My daughter was exactly 5 lbs when she was born. She's nearly 4 months old now, still petite but growing at steady rate. Whenever i take her out and people ask me how old she is they always say "oh i thought she was younger then that". Sometimes i wish i could shove her dummy up their right nostrill to show being small doesnt mean anything. As long as she's ok thats all that matters.

i know how you feel i have got a 11 month old boy and it took him 20 wks to put on about 5lbs when he was 36 wks every time i take him to the doctors they always ask me if he is eating but he eats for england and now at at 11 months he only weigh 20lbs and 7oz. Everyone will always say how little the baby is and how i get though it is i know im doing everything for him and he is just one of those people who dont that much weight on.

I have a 19 month old son. He was born almost three weeks early and weighed in at 5lbs 1oz. His height and head measurements were always in the 50-80 percentile, but weight stayed at the bottom. At his 18 month checkup he weighed in at 22lbs. We haven't been able to break the 20-22lb range. The hard part is buying clothes for him. It's a nightmare because he's so petite. 12 month pants fit his waist, but are a little on the short side and 18 month pants are great in length but can't stay around his waist. They end up around hs ankles. I don't pay attention to those numbers because he is a very health, active little boy. He is going through a little growth spurt and eats everything. We'll see what his 24 month check shows.

My daught is almost 11 months. At her 9 month appointment she was only almost 14 lbs 3 ounces. I think that she might be somewhere arround 15 lbs now and we will find out exactly how much she will weigh at the end Febuary for her 12 month appointment. She was 5 lbs 4 ounces when she was born. She is almost walking right now and does alot of things skills wise  either early or right on schedule for her age.

My youngest is 18 months and at her check up was 15 lbs. 13 oz.  Everyone says she is tiny, but they all think she's so cute.  She is right on developmentally, she just has "short" genes!   She is under the 5th percentile for height and weight.  But the dr. is not worried about it--said she couldn't do anything to change her DNA!  So I'm not worried about it.

My 13 year old daughter was like that...still is. She didn't hit 20 lbs until after her 2nd birthday. They ran every test under the sun on her for 2 years... and finally decided she was just small. It can be very frustrating, but I just keep telling her that big things come in small packages... and it was great that she got to wear my favorite outfits for so long instead of outgrowing them after 2 wearings. Hang in there and as long as she is healthy otherwise I would just tell people to mind their own business.

As a side note I have a similar problem with my 7 month old son... he has an excessive amount of hair and I swear if one more person calls him a girl and says boys shouldn't be allowed to have that much hair is going to hear my real thoughts on the subject... lol.
