I just adopted my great nephew. He is 5 we got him when he was almost 3. It is an on going adventure, he needs structure and love. He thinks he is an adult and can make the decisions. Stay with it and get help from all the resources out there.

I am raising my two year old grand daughter who is special needs. By far, the hardest thing I have ever done!! I have three adult children, but this has been tough.....I have a new found appreciation for anyone caring for a child that is not theirs....

I'm raising my little sister - well, not so "little" anymore, but she's still that innocent little girl in my eyes. She is about to be 14. I've been her guardian for over three years now after our Mom passed away in a car accident. I hate going into details, but out of respect for Mom, I feel like I have to say that so people don't assume the worst of her. After Mom passed, I searched high and low for a book I could relate to with regard to kinship care and couldn't really find anything. If anybody can suggest something, please do!

At 20, I am raising my little nephew,
My sister( baby's mom) is around, but very rarely, she loves him, but doesn't want to deal with the whole process of cooking for him, bathing, playing with him,or putting him to sleep, and doesn't bother to spend time with him, really sad actually, but I do it because that is the right thing to do.
He calls me "mommy auntie", which I love.
But he is the greatest adventure in my life.
:D

Yes, I'm raising my seventeen years old grandson.  I'm amazed how different children are, today.  The remarks they make today, in my day I find myself getting up out the floor.  They talk you you like you re a friend.  There is little respect.  the child abuse law has made me bite my lip many time.

OMG I feell what you are saying.  I have my twelve and five year old grans with me.  One gives lip, and the other s lips won't close.

My grandmother raised me since I was two years old. I grew up calling her "mom", still do! Force of habit. :)

I think it's great you created this group, im sure many people will get plenty of use out of it. Good luck to you!

the entire time i was growing up my parents were always raising my cousins, nephews, etc. It takes a strong person in order to raise other peoples kids even if its family.
