Anyone else's child/ren look NOTHING like you?!

[deleted account] ( 24 moms have responded )

My daughter looks NOTHING like me! I keep trying to find something of mine she has, I think she might have my toes lol but thats about it. I would of thought the hospital switched babies on me but I had a forcept delivery so her head has some brusing on it. Thats the only way I knew she was mine. I was so excited when I found out I was having a little girl and that she would look like me, I have brown hair and brown eyes, my daughter has light brown hair and blue eyes! She is 71/2 months old now and I still dont see any (me) in her. When were out -n-about people always comment on how cute she is but I think they think im just babysitting her. But really shes mine!

So do your kids not look like you either?

My first child is the spit of her dad and has red hair which was passed down from my side.i had fair hair naturally and her dad blonde.

My second looks like me more she was born with lots of black hair though but i got a line from a neighbour one day saying ,she looks nothing like her dad with the tan skin &dark hair etc you'd think she wasn't his.i was so shocked well yes she is his lol.

Both my girls look completely the opposite but i love them no matter what way the look.

Babies change so much and so quickly that you are likely to see every relative she has in her before she finally settles into her own unique self. It's really some kind of miracle!

As far as what people say. you will find that people say just about anything to make conversation. It doesn't have to make sense. Just smile and nod.

Ha. I know how you feel. My family often jokes that I need a maternity test. My beautiful baby has HUGE hazel eyes, almost blonde hair and a very outgoing temperment. I on the other hand am the only quiet one in the family with dark hair and blue, squinty eyes. Its the ongoing joke in the family. But I read somewhere that babies look more like their fathers when they are born (helps with bonding, or something to that effect) and they grow to look like their mothers. Or, at least I hope so...

Thanks for everyone's post, I knew I wasnt the only mom with a child who looked nothing like me. And Amy... wow thats crazy! I hope everything works out for you and your family. I want to google mosiacism so I know more about it. :)

There is new research that shows that brown eyes are no longer dominant. I have brown eyes and am a brunette, my daughter has blue eyes and blonde hair like her father. Both my grandmothers also have blue eyes so we have a pretty long line of blue eyes. It's hate it when people say: "oh she looks just like you" to her father, because in fact she looks nothing like him except for the blue eyes and blonde hair, which people can't seem to see around. I'm just hoping the next one has atleast green or hazel eyes:)

I have dark brown hair and dark brown eyes and both my daughters have really light brown (almost blonde) hair and one has grey eyes and one has bright blue eyes! It bothers me more than them! lol Just goes to show that although you think you have the dominant gene, its not always the case.

You would never think my boys had anything to do with me, whereas my daughter is like a clone of me. Children are all different and as they get older they change so much, often it's not looks that make us alike but rather our mannerisms.

Science say's babies usually look like there dads a first a way of keeping the dad around, I'm brown haired hazel eyed, 3 of my children definitley take after their dad being blue eyed and blonde haired, all have blue eyes thanks to many of the great and grands having them. Ask around the family on both side to see who your daughter resembles, she may not look like you but she may have your personality type, sometimes the resemblance may not show up until she is grown! either way love her for who she is, not who she is like. She is a present to be unwrapped, and discovered and appreciated.

People who don't know me never id me as their mum! Once at a works christmas party three of them came of a hay wagon the horse spooked and I went with my husband to find them and one women wouldn't listen when I tried to claim my son off of her, she wouldn't even let his older sister take him back with her sister(both blonde and blue eyed with freckles!) My husband said why I let her take her back and I said well he knows I'm right behide them with you and when she tries to find his mom in the community centre where others know we are his parents , she find us right behind. She was very embarrassed when that happened! LOL the kids were un harmed by the way just a few bumps and bruises.
I am constantly finding things my kids have in common with me. I keep quiet about them though, as we all have to find those things out for ourselves and learn to integrate them especially when our relationships get a bit bumpy as our children grow and mature. LOL:)

When my oldest son was born I wondered if I had had anything to do with him being created as he looked exactly like his father. He is in his 30's today and still looks like his father except he got my complexion which is better than always burning in the sun like his father did. On the same twist the next child ended up looking exactly like me..... it is like we had a pair, one for him, one for me! And i love them both the same!

when my son was born he was like this crazy little look alike of his dad I mean it was wierd how he was like this shrunken version of him and when people would see me out with him its like they just didnt know what to say because the knew his dad and was like oh my you would never not know who his dad is good lord which was awful because his dad and I seperated when I was pregnant after 7 years together and I then had this bueatyful little baby with my exs face haha but thats another story all together

As he gotten a little older hes 9 I see more of me in him but honeslty he looks alot like my grandma which is my fathers mother and I really dont look like anyone in my family out of my 6 siblings we all have every color hair possible from bright red with a ton of freckles and green eyes to dark skinned with hazel eyes to me blonde and blue eyed its all genetics you just never know what you are going to get my sons father is very dark skinned with dark dark eyes and my son is fair like me with blonde hair and I remarried when my son was 3 and his bio dad moved away and everyone really thinks that his step dad his his biological father because they really are built very much the same and have very much the same personality that now when I say no actually I didnt meet his step dad till he was 3 people seem to be shocked that hes not his real dad but he is in every way that really matters and looks after all are just skin deep

I know how you feel. Had I not seen my son be born, I would of always had my doubts. I have olive skin, dark brown eyes and dark brown hair. My little boy has very pale skin, blue eyes and blonde hair. Go figure. People have on occasion asked if I was he was adopted.

I was a bit blown away. I asked if they meant I was a twin that absorbed another, and they said it's unlikely but possible; it's more likely there was a change (no idea how) in a cell really early on in each of the genes, and both groups just stayed together. I really don't understand much about it yet, and have declined further testing until I can afford it although it's highly recommended. It causes a high rate of autoimmune diseases and allergy issues (which I have), and other problems. Honestly, when I found out I was just blown away and asked the geneticist, "What else is wrong with us?" because this is the THIRD major gene defect in me alone.

Amy Lea:wow yes i heard a story about that on the news.I find it fascinating:)can only imagine what you thought at first when you found out that your child wasnt your child lol.

I have brown eyes and brown hair, my son has blue eyes and blond hair. My daughter has brown hair and brown eyes, but when she was born she had black hair and blue eyes. My husband swore that I must have cheated on him because she looked nothing like either one of us. I never cheated, I was always worried though that people would think that. Her hair started changing lighter when she was about 1 year old. Her eyes styed blue for a long time. The doctor told me that they usually don't change color after 6 months old. He was wrong, her eyes didn't turn brown until she was almost 1, they turned grey, then hazel, I actually have a picture of her at my sons 5th birthday 1 month before she turned 1, her eyes were hazel, 2 weeks later just 2 weeks before her 1st birthday her father had her pictures taken and her eyes are brown in that picture.

Kids change alot while they are growing, I always wanted kids that look alike, where people can tell by looking at them that they are brother and sister. You just have to look at you side of the family and the fathers side, because sometimes they can take after aunts and uncles and grandparents. You never can tell what your child will look like.

True Sharon they aren't mini-me's. I for one want my daughter to grow up and be better than me in all aspects of her life :)

My kids look nothing like me. I have a distinct asian look. Two of my kids are whiter than toilet paper. One has a slightly exotic look but he still doesn't look like me.

People often mistook me for the nanny when they were blonde, blue eyed infants.

Which I get a kick out of. Even if people think I'm the stepmom - I come off in the BEST light possible. I love my kids & it shows so for those who think I'm the step mom, hahahaha I look fantastic.

Kids weren't meant to be mini-me's (goddamn austin powers for that phrase) they are their own individuals. In looks, feelings, wants & desires.

My daughter was born with black hair and blonde highlights, she also has blue eyes. She had blonde eyebrows and eyelashes too which have since darkened a little. I would have sworn they gave me the wrong baby had it not been for the homebirth lol.

I didn't understand how she could have blue eyes as she is part chinese (As am I) and I have dark brown eyes and her dad has dark green eyes. People also said she didn't look like me at all and just looked like her dad. I remember thinking "Are you serious? She has chinese eyes but her dad is white caucasian!"

Amy I saw something about that on tv, the lining of your womb or other organs have a different genetic makeup to the rest of you...sounds very scifi and cool.

Well although I can't see it, some people say that my lil boy looks like me and yet other people say he looks like my husband. We both have brown hair and brown eyes, yet Cody has blonde hair and blue eyes!! Of course I was like you..and thought they had switched him in the hospital, but a lot of people say that he is a dead ringer for either myself or my husband, so I am stoked that he IS mine after all hehe

Honestly, some of my kids look like me and some don't. People always comment on how much our twins look like me, and they're my step children! We had genetic testing done due to health problems with our youngest, and mine came back abnormal as compared to my daughter's. The geneticist said my DNA shows I am not the mother of my daughter, but we KNOW I am her mother, which means I probably have mosiacism (two sets of genetic material). It's more common than you think, I guess!
