Hi, I've got two sons and really don't want to get pregant again any time soon. Just wondering what chances are of falling pregnant through the once every three months needle birth control?

I had the Depo shot and while I didn't get pregnant while on it, I got pregnant the month I stopped it even though I was on the pill and took it religiously. It also had nasty side effects for me. I gained 100 lbs the year I was on it that wouldn't come off no matter how much exercise and nutritional adjusting I did. I now (many years later) have and IUD and I love it. It was really uncomfortable for me when it was put in, but has had no side effects I have noticed. It has been well worth it and the best birth control I have found. Good Luck!

Sorry, but no birth control is completely full proof. I got pregnant with my twins on the depoprovera shot. It is said, that it is 99 percent effective, but there is always that chance.

I use the Mirena IUD and LOVE it!  Like the previous poster, it is slightly uncomfortable while they are putting it in, but went away as soon as they finished.  I am horomone sensitive and get a little (OK, alot!) crazy when on any BC w/horomones.  With the IUD, there is only one side efect - I haven't had a period in almost a year, since I had it put in!!!  LOVE IT!

I've never gotten pregnant on any of the BC I've used, jsut the horomonal side effects.  The patch was a horrible experience for me as far as my cycle went.  The depo was the worst as far as horomnone effects and craziness.

Good luck to you.

Nothing is full proof (I got pregnant after my husband had a vasectomy!) But I know SEVERAL people that have gotten pregnant on the Dep shot. IUD's that are hormone-free are less effective than ones that are. The pill seems to work the best, I know people that have gotten pregnant on the patch, IUD's, the shot. Good luck!

Have you thought about an IUD?  They can last up to 5 years but can also be removed earlier if your mind changes.  I have done the Nuva (sp) ring with a 3 month on 3 month on cycle before and it worked.  But yes, nothing is full proof aside from Essure and tied tubes.
