LM it was sudden. I started having nausea and so on and the doc thought it was some stomach virus and two days later I went back and he tested for H. pylori and it was positive. I just finished the antibiotics and am to take the acid reducer for a while yet. But I feel so awful still. My stomach hurts.

H.pylori is a common bacteria that two-thirds of the population carries, most often acquired during childhood. Most often it goes untreated and unnoticed by the host. . The bacteria are believed to cause stomach problems when they penetrate the stomach’s mucous lining and generate substances that neutralize stomach acids. This makes the stomach cells more vulnerable to the harsh acids. About 10-15 percent of people with H.pylori infection will develop stomach ulcer. The treatment includes anitibiocs to kill the bacteria, acid reducing medications and Bismuth subsalicylate (pepto) work to help rebuild the stomach lining.
Because it is an easy test and it is the most common cause for ulcers, it has bedome part of a standard ulcer workup.

For sure decreasing the acidity of you stomach will help, H.pylori will need treatment. You can have a blood test for the presence of the antigen and hopefully avoid a scope examining your insides.
Here is a link with some tips, the doctor give pretty good reasons for the food he recommends.

Little Miss--I was just diagnosed with H. pylori and have been on antibiotics and acid reducers for the last couple weeks. They want me (the doctors) to go a specialist next month to see if I am having any issues for sure. They acted like they were in a hurry to get something done. The only thing is that I do not like the fact I got to wait a month to go as the doctor at my clinic seemed in a hurry and the fact it is 45 minutes away.

You can try bumping up the amount of non-acidic fruits and vegi's you eat. Try some green tea with honey and increase probiotics such as found in most yogurts. Probably more stuff, but I don't know.

Things to avoid: well you hit the nail on the head with coffee. Also avoid carbonated drinks and salty or spicy foods. And try to reduce stress (impossible, right? lol).

Sarah, what would make them investigate for H. Pyloris?? Is it standard protocol for ulcers?

I drank some milk, and took some tums about 45 mins ago. It helped.

Oh Evelyn...The first time Rich had it, it was a regimen of 27 different meds a day for a full 14 days! I think it was harder getting him to finish the regimen (as an adult) than it EVER was for me to get my kids to take their meds!

They've definitely improved the treatment plan.

LM, his started feeling like it was an ulcer too, accompanied by just a general feeling of ucky...I hope you figure it out, and that it is NOT h. pylori!

That stuff is gross, Shawnn. And some of the newer things they do include Pepto Bismal...that stuff makes me sick. They have me on two strong antibiotics and Prilosec.

I just feel like I have a raw feeling in one area of my stomach. Not sure how else to explain it.

Evelyn how long were you having symptoms for? Sudden onset? Had you had ulcers in the past?

This is the first time I have ever had any symptoms. I was hoping a good change of diet, less coffee and reduce stress....I really don't want to go the medical route unless that doesn't help. I don't want to be on meds forever for this. Like I said, first time. Never have reflux, and no other symptoms that I know of.

Grandpa used to do the Milk of magnesia route. Ugh! Have you been looked at for possible other issues? I'm kind of thinking h. pylori as well. Hubs has had that 3 times now (and apparently you're only supposed to be able to get it once...LOL)

The antibiotic regimen for that has improved greatly since the first time he had it, though!

Curious...what do you do to relax, LM?
