I'm looking for some of your experiences with this. I'm considering putting my 5th grade ADHD son on a 504. My husband disagree. I feel it would help my son achieve more success. He feels it would cause him not to try as hard.

My son has ADHD and is on a 504. All it does it gives him special seating in class to help concentrate, extra papers if his get lost without penalty and special seating for testing.

It will only help and your husband is sadly mistaken. He already is working 100x's harder than the avg. child why even make it harder for him.

He will still have to do all the same work, homework etc. All it does it helps him stay focused in class and for testing.

@Christina - WHAAAAAT??? Why? Were you looking for specific accomodations? Is he gifted? I got shut down on the IEP, that's ok. I wasn't really wanting to "make life easy on him" because the world isn't a fair place so why get him in the habit of thinking it is. But a 504 just isn't even all that big of a deal, I can't understand why a school wouldn't be supportive and encouraging of that.

Thank you. That's what I'm thinking too. I'm not hoping for him to get less work than other students...just more time to do it in. He does rather well when he's not rushing. I know the world will not make exceptions for him, but if I can help him achieve more small successes in school, he has a better start on reaching his life goals.
