I'm 22 weeks pregnant and they want me to deliever the baby around 28-30 weeks if the baby is big enough..due to my daughter needing a pacemaker. Now im wondering how many moms out there gave birth early and what was the out come of your child? How long did your child have to stay in the hospital for? I'm looking for support I'm worried about all this. so any help would be loved.

Thank you.

My daughter was born 13 weeks early and weighed 2 lbs 3 oz...she is now a beautiful, healthy 10 year old. She spent only 2 & 1/2 weeks in the hospital. Keep your chin up and I'll keep you and your family in my prayers!

My daughter was born at 28 weeks. She did stay in the Special Care Nursery for 2.5 weeks. She was 4 lbs 10 oz- and went down to 4 lbs due to a pnuemothorax (small hole in the lung) She needed a chest tube for a few days- and when they removed it- it healed very quickly. Once we brought her home it was very smooth sailing from there. She has only had one cold in 18 months, and she is in the 50% percentile for height and weight (not adjusted age-actual) and she is developing right at the pace she should be. She is happy, well adjusted, affectionate, curious, strong and good eater and sleeper. All is well. I will warn you some people may say stupid things... which made me a little mad... like - Oh- that baby was born "normally" (at the time I felt like asking- are you saying my baby isn't "normal" and do you want to still have the shower...don't you want to see how things go. They do not intend to hurt. The only reason I say this is so that you can be prepared to just ignore these comments if they come up... people can just say stupid things :) I wish you the best- Surround yourself with positive and supportive people. Enjoy your beautiful baby!

My son was born at 30 weeks and spent 7 weeks in the NICU. He is now a happy, healthy, rambunctious 5 year old. In a way, it may be a positive that you have the opportunity to prepare for an early birth. An emergency C-section at 30Wk is definitely not the way to go! :) I don't the exact statistics, but depending on where you live and what medical centers are nearby, the survival rate of 30 weekers is something like 90%. It may not be the picture-perfect delivery you expected, but chances are it will all work out. Good luck!

Not sure if this helps but my youngest daughter was born 5 weeks early due to the fear that she may have hydrops. Luckily she was born only with ascities. She spent 1 week in NICU and the nurses and doctors were absolutely wonderful. She recieved shots one time a month for the first year to help with RSVP. She was 6 lb 9 oz when she was born (the biggest baby in NICU). She is a very healthy 5 year old and have not had any problems to date. I pray all goes well with you and your family.

It is amazing what can be done to help along what nature can't. Your little one and you will do just fine. If your baby needs too stay in the hospital for a longer amount of time, at least you know everything will be cared for. The outcome too any pregancy in the end, it a healthy and happy baby, Best wishes.

My daughter was born premature at 32 weeks, due to pre-eclampsia. She weighed 3lbs 14oz. She spent 3 weeks in the Nicu. It is a very hard and scary time. She is a very healthy and happy 3 year old. If you know anyone that has had a premature baby, you should call and talk to them. That helped me out. Also talk to other parents in the Nicu. I became friends with another mom and it is nice to see how well are kids are doing and compare their stages. Just remember that the nurses and doctors in the NICU are the best at what they do. They explain everything to you and answer all your questions. Good luck to you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your little one.

My son was born at 26 weeks weighing 2lbs. My water broke at 24 weeks and I stayed in the hospital till he decided to come. He spent 13 weeks in two different NICU's. He is a happy healthy 1 year old weighing 18lbs.

My prayers are with you and your little baby.

My Granddaughter came at 28wks. She spent 11 wks in the NICU. She is now a happy, healthy 18 month old! She weighed 3lbs 3 ozs at birth and yesterday she weighed in at 26lbs so she is right on target, you cant even tell she was ever a preemie.

I gave birth at 27 weeks due to pre eclampsia. My son was in hospital for 10 1/2 weeks. He is now a very happy and cheeky 8 month old, and has no problems from being premature. You would never know he was so early.

It's a scary time for you, but these babies have great outcomes.

Having a preemie can be scary, but there are lots of groups on here that will give you good advice, and support.
