Hi, my name is Rikke. I live in Denmark. I am 26 years old, married and I have 2 beautiful boys. Liam who is 3 years old and Linus who is 4 months old.
Liam was diagnosed with microcephaly only 6 months ago. Linus also have a very small head, and we are fearing that he also suffers from microcephaly. Microcephaly is very rare in Denmark/Scandinavia, affecting only about 1 child a year.
We don't know much about it, only what we have read on the internet.
Liam has a very small stature (82 cm) and he has trouble with gaining on weight (10 kg) his head circumference is 42 cm.
He has big trouble with sleeping, his language is very delayed, he has a lot of temper and a tendence to be hyperactive, also he has problems with making freindships. But at the same time he is a happy, smiling and loving boy.
But how can we expect? What should we demand from the doctors/specialists? Should we ask a neurologist to see him? What kind of help should we get, to help him the best? Should we demand testing of our genes? Can we have a "normal" child?
I hope that someone can help me get some answers to all of my questions, and maybe get in contact with other moms who have children with microcephaly.
(I apologize for any spelling faults, English is not my first language)
