My son Dalton was diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome and ADHD back in September of last year. Now I am ADD and I have 2 brothers who are ADD and ADHD and my father is ADHD and none of us sleep at night much. LOL I was told that some Aspie kids have trouble sleeping. I can get Dalton to bed at 9 and go upstairs at 1am or 2am and he will still be awake. He isn't playing with anything he isnt watching anything. He just lays there and is wide awake. Any suggestions? Or anyone else have a child that doesn't sleep! =)

Ty Katherine. I had already joined that community but I believe i posted it in wrong spot. However getting a few responses here not there =(

Ty Teresa.. Glad to know we aren't alone!!

TY Amy that is helpful about the medication. I am not sure if Dalton needs it or not. He doesn't like to go to sleep but once asleep likes to sleep for a long time which makes getting up in the morning very hard. Once he gets going he is fine and won't sleep again until 1 or 2am and we get up at 6am. The only other time he sleeps is if he has gotten stressed out from school ( he will go upstairs and ball up under his comforter) and when he is sick. I just want to make sure I am doing everything I can for him so that he is ok. =)

Yup. Some people try to medicate their kids, generally starting with Melatonin, and others going all the way to using big drugs you don't even want to see grandma on. My son like this is 11 years old now, and he's never slept more than 4-5 hours per 24. But he's not acting overtired, and it's just him, so we let him be. We've taught him he can read, he can watch tv in the livingroom quietly, etc, just be quiet.

My best friend's son was diagnosed w/ Asperger's a couple of years ago (he's 9 now). He doesn't fall asleep easily either. I don't have any advice, but I know you aren't alone!
