I was reading several comments on childhood apraxia. My son was diagnosed at age 3 and the most helpful advice I received was to enroll him in swim classes and karate lessons. This helped with his fine motor movements and also gave him alot of confidence. We did extensive speech therapy at age 2 1/2 (through the school system and private therapy in the summer months) but I feel swimming and karate lesson were key to him developing the confidence to interact with his peers. A speech therapist also told me to get a reading tutor by the time he was kindergarten age and I also think that was excellent advice. He is an adult now and is very social and outgoing. There were alot of hard elementary years where it was painful to see how his peers treated him but you would never suspect that watching him interact with his peers in college.
