Are there methods that can be used from home to tell whether baby is okay in the womb?

Good day all. I'm a first time mummy to be and I'm really looking forward to it. My little one is due on the 19th of March 2014 and she is a bubbly little girl. I recently started feeling little movements, but I havnt felt anything today and its really got me worried. Is there some way that you can tell if baby is still okay without having to go to the doctor? My next appointment is scheduled for the 16 of November so I don't want to be overcautious but I also don't want to risk my baby's life. There is no bleeding or discharge, just my concerns about her moving. Another major factor that I'm really, truely struggling with is my addiction to smoking. When I first found out that I was pregnant, I stopped smoking completely for the first three months and then my world started falling apart and I turned back to cigarettes, although I smoke about 3 at most, I am very worried and am trying to just quit again for the sake of my baby. Are there any mom's that have smoked and had healthy babies? Not that I want to continue, I absolutely don't.
