My 15 year old son who has Aspergers is being discharged from an inpatient psych hospital on Monday. He is stable now (was having irrational beliefs, obsessions, thought of hurting self) but is a highly stressed out kid. He hates school (a therapeutic school he believes does not help him), has no friends or social skills but is very intelligent, sweet and loving. I want to protect him from stress once he comes home to get him acclimated to his new meds, have him home instructed for awhile as he sees a psychiatrist and social worker once weekly. But I am terrified that he will fall into depression again from being isolated. He doesn't want to be around the kids at his school but then he gets depressed about no peer relationships. There are so very few (if any) social groups in our area for kids on the spectrum. All of his "socializing" was done on the internet which I have taken away from him entirely because it was feeding his obsessions and irrational thoughts. He will only have contact with me, his dad, sibs, his drs and home tutor. Does anyone have a child with this disorder who is a teenager? Do you have any advice for me? I love this boy so much but I haven't been able to help him enough in his 15 years of life because of this disorder. Any and all thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
