My 5 year old daughter has had a cough and sounds congested for alittle while. She did have a cold and with the weather being windy and hot and then cold for a few days and the windy and hot again. I thought it was just allergies. The doctor says she has asthma!. Asthma?! She never wheezes. She runs and plays and never can’t breathe! The cough doesn’t bother her and I ask her if she has any issues with breathing, she says no. Thoughts?

If you don't think your doctor's diagnosis is accurate, you could always take her to a pulmonologist for a second opinion. My daughter is 3, and at this age they are still classifying hers as "reactive airway disease" although there is family history of asthma. She takes a Singulair before bedtime (for that annoying cough) and uses an inhaler occasionally when I notice a lot of coughing or throat clearing. She also does not have wheezing or stereotypical, 'turn blue' asthma attacks. Hers is mild and mostly seasonal (going along with the allergies), so managing it is really no big deal.
