I also think it depends on the child. My son went into a toddler bed at 15 months and we never had an issue. No change in bedtime or fights to go to sleep. There was a gate on his door just in case he tried to explore the house, but it was really a non-issue. He was much happier in a toddler bed than he was in his crib.

Is your child trying to crawl out of their crib? Are they safe and content in the crib? Do they adjust to change well? Is bedtime already a struggle?

Those are some questions you might need to ask yourself to determine if it's right for your child :)

I think it depends a lot on the child. My youngest to go from crib to bed was about 18 months. That was a little on the young side. He didn't do a good job staying in his bed once he had the freedom to choose. My oldest was almost 3. He loved, loved, loved his crib and we were in no hurry to mess up the easy bedtime routine he had by switching beds. With him, we lowered the side of the crib so he could get in and out himself since he as at an age when that was fine.
