At what age do you transition to a sippy?

When they can sit upright on their own and can hold things about 7-12 months depending on your child's skills and willingness. Mine started practicing at 8 months and was off bottles totally at a year.

I started giving my kids sippy cups around 9 months...but that's because they wouldn't take a bottle, and I figured we'd just move on to the next stage. I think around a one year is typical. You don't want to wait too long to give up that bottle because then they can become attached to it. It will be messy at first, but they'll adjust quickly.
