It's better to have them closer to the floor in a toddler bed than to have them fall from a crib. I'll never forget when I found out my daughter was ready for a toddler bed...I had put her in her crib for a time out and left the room. I heard a noise and when I turned around there she was in the doorway. I don't think she was much older than 12 months at the time, either. If you're worried about a toddler bed you could just put his mattress on the floor, baby proof the room, and gate off the door.

My opinon only: If your child is showing agressive moves such as lifting a leg over the top side of the crib, etc...Then It's time for a toddler bed! It will give 'you' peace of mind and you will not have to worry if he is going to fall or get hurt...
Now you start another phase... disciplining him to remain in bed once you have put him in it...Just remember... stay firm and tell him why he needs his rest...I usually encouraged my kids to hurry to get to sleep so they could play tomorrow...and not be grouchy or fussy...
Good Luck... With Love, Jill

I believe its a personal choice for any mother. Bt safety does come first. My daughter is just shy of 2 and has been in a toddler bed for almost a month. She ever tried to climb out of her crib but I thought and felt it was time to move up. Her toddler bed is low to the floor and I have a safety guard up so she cant fall out. She hasnt tried to climb out or anything and she loves being a "big girl" now.

My daughter started to climb out of her crib at 19 months. At first, we took out everything in her room, put the mattress on the floor& gated her room. The next day we bought a crib tent at Babies R us. The brand is Tots in Mind. We LOVE it! I really believe that it saved my husband & I many headaches. I highly recommend. I hope that helps- Good luck.

My 20 month old son has been in a toddler bed from Ikea (it grows to be a full size single bed), shortly after a year old. He was very tall and still is! The bed we have is really close to the ground and he has only fallen out twice because he moves way to much. But I'm glad we moved him to the toddler bed when we did because he could climb out and we needed the crib for his younger brother. But he does climb back in and out of the crib to visit with his 8 month old brother.

My son climbed out of crib in January for the 1st time. He too is a tall baby. He's a 1year and 4 months old and he's gotten used to his toddler bed. It was a challenge, but well worth it, because he had fallen off my bed 4 times and he already knew how to climb out of his crib. Try it. You'll be less worried about him falling out or climbing out and falling on his head or getting hurt. The toddler bed is so cute and he'll easily be able to climb off. Good Luck!!!

I moved my youngest to a twin bed with netted rails at 13-14 months. He was enable to sleep because he was hurting himself on the crib and waking up screaming in pain. I struggled with it for a while because I was scared to let him have free range so young. I must say it took a lot of patients from my husband and I to put this young child back in the bed when he didn't understand, but it worked wonders. He is now just two and bedtime is a dream and has been for a while. A friend of mine has only one child and she is older then my youngest and she finally moved her daughter to the toddler bed because she did fall out of her crib. We thank God everyday that she did not get hurt. She fell on the same side as the rocker and got sandwiched between the crib and rocker. She only had a bruise on her cheek. You need to listen to your gut. You are with him all the time and if you truley listen you will know what is best for your son. Best of luck!!!

At what age should I put my son in a toddler bed?
My son is very tall and his crib is at his chest and I am afraid he might figure out how to climb over and maybe fall. He is only 12 months old. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have twins that are 15 months old. One is in a crib, the other is in a toddler bed because he can climb over baby gates so I don't want to take the chance of him climbing out of the bed. I have to close the door at night because he sometimes wakes up very early, but he has learned to play in the room, which usually wakes me up. I think it really depends on the child though. My four year old was two before I put her in a toddler bed.
