I 'think' 6-9 months is average. My girls 'army crawled' at 7 months and were hands and knees crawling at 8 months. My son was 'army crawling' at 5 months and hands and knees at 6.

I have 4 children and they all started crawling at different ages. My twins are 9 1/2 months and started crawling at about 8 months. They couldn't even sit up unsupported and then one day all of a sudden they started sitting up, crawling and pulling up all in about a week.

Not until after 6mos. At 6 mos they start to sit up. Then generally in the 7-8 mos range they will crawl generally. You may find them rolling to get where they want to go at first.

My son didn't crawl until about a week before he turned 8 months. 5 months is pretty early to be crawling...although, some kids will crawl that early, but some won't crawl until much later. And like Bonnie said, some skip crawling altogether.

Both my boys didn't crawl, they scooted and pulled themselves across the floor. This started at around 8 months, but didn't last long before they started walking. Keep in mind that not all babies crawl. Some babies skip crawling completely and go straight to walking.
