Does anyone know WHY Social Security recommend that autism/asperger/pdd individuals who turn 18 years and older disability benefits be terminated?
Initially he was diagnosed as Autism, then Asperger-Syndrome and currently Asperger-Syndrome/PDD.
I received Autism Research Institute's (ARI) newsletter 07/31 and it appears that many families will find their child lumped into an "unknown" category that isn't necessarily autism. It appears research will start from zero and take about 10 years to clearly define...it's all about dollars.
I've been fighting for my son since he turned 18 in 2007. We are due in Disability Adjudication & Review 08/19/13 which is the final appeals.
I'm dealing with Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and he's enrolled with Vocational Training that is "piece work" labor. He has 15 credit hours of college and while I'm trying to get him to a specialized service, he's been accepted to a community college BUT I've got to quickly raise funds that the service won't match.
He's frustrated, ready to head off and I'm frustrated because Autism is being thrust into an unknown dark hole...it will affect families who receive not only disability and Medicaid BUT the services that assist them to keep their child's needs met.
Anyone dealing with this or have suggestions? I've got to head back to my email. I have a reporter whom I contacted and they are interested about my "disability and autism/pdd".
If you send your email address, I can send you the report from ARI as a PDF.
