That sounds very typical for his diagnosis. If you have the chance to spend time at his therapy, the thrapist may give you some techniques to help him build his skills at home.

There is an Autism community you can join. Is your son getting services at school? He may not ever be able to speak but he likely will learn to read and write a bit- he is only 6 and those skills can take time to develop. What are some of his skills and challenges?
