babies and dogs: will they get along well?!

Most dogs will be great with your baby, but don't assume your will be fine. You'll want to teach the dog what is ok and what is not okay. My brother and his cute wife had lots of animals before they decided to have a baby. (She's a vet tech) One of their dogs is so sweet with their little girl and very protective of her. The other dog really doesn't care much. Each dog's personality is a little different even within a breed, so watch and see, and be ready to do some training where needed. I bet they'll be fine!
And Congratulations on your baby girl!!!

We got a dog about 7 months before my daughter was born, so he could be trained before she was born while there was time, and he was great with her. Every dog is different though. He was always very protective of her, and as she got older would give her kisses, then play. Hardest part we had was stopping him from licking her fingers when she was really little. The dog my parents had when we were babies wasn't good with kids till I came along. She nipped at them and everything so when mom and dad brought me home they put me in my chair on the floor, stayed very close by to see how she would react so they would know if the dog could stay or not. My grandma threw a fit but they needed to know, and she was great with me. She slept under my crib, and both my brothers cribs as they were born till she passed away to protect us at night. Dogs give babies security as long as they are good with the babies... but thats a suggestion I thought I'd throw out there that might help you.... my husband and I did the same with our daughter to make sure. Although we don't have him any more and its breaking all our hearts
