I am a first time mum. Baby is doing well, however he always wakes up crying from his nap (even after 1 or 2 hours) and at night. My ds sleeps from around 9:30pm to 3 or 4am. And from then he will wake up crying every hour or hour and half. Since he sleeps in the same room but in his crib by himself, I normally pick him up right away because I don't want disturb my husband due to his busy working schedule. Once I pick him up, he will stop crying and fall back to sleep after couple of minutes. Any advise besides I should let him cry it out? Thank you.

Hi Julianne:

He doesn't need to nurse when he got up. And I hold him for a bit, he fall asleep after awhile.

Yes, I started him with a bedtime routine about two weeks ago. And I tried to put him to sleep around the same time everyday. I tried the let him cry it out method between his wakening last night, it took him 7 minutes to fall asleep by himself again. And he slept from 11pm to 5am. That was a first night he didn't wake up crying.

He's a baby. Thats what they do. He'll grow out of it. My 7 month old still does thing(my 3 year old did until about a year). The best cure is time and patience. I just nurse my baby and she goes back to sleep. Does he nurse/eat when he wakes up?

Hi Danielle, thank you for your helpful information. Lucky you, what a great sleeper. My boy doesn't go sleep until 9:30 or sometimes 10pm even I tried to put him to bed earlier. He normally has a long stretch of sleep of 4-5 hours during the night then he will wake up every hour and half crying. He takes two naps/day and sometimes his late after nap is around 6 or 7pm. I think I should try to avoid his late afternoon night and extend his earlier one instead. Hopefully this will work.

My LO did the exact same thing.. I have tried everything possible to "fix" it and for the past 3 days I have found somewhat of a solution that has worked for me...so far lol. My LO is almost 5 months old. She used to sleep through the night, but when she hit her 3 month growth spurt, it went downhill from there. She would wake every night around 12pm-1am and would be up every hour to every 2 hours after, crying each time. Sometimes she would go back to sleep after I picked her up, sometimes she would drink an ounce and doze off. But it had been going on for almost 2 months and I was at my whits end. What is your LO's sleeping pattern through the day? My LO would get tired 2 hours after waking from her naps during the day and I just let her sleep and wake as she pleased. Someone on here gave me great advise to schedule her naps and try to keep her awake more during the day and this would help her sleep better at night and IT WORKED. I have to keep her very distracted so she wont fuss when she starts to get sleepy. She only has 2 naps during the day now, her last one she wakes at 2pm. She goes to bed early (6:30pm) and wakes at 6:30 am for the morning with only 1 night feed in between. I have been scheduling her naps for 3 days now and as each night went on she's been sleeping better and better. I am not sure if this will help you, but give it a few days/nights and see if it helps. I wish you the best of luck with this.
