baby and winter

I just wanted to ask other mom's what they tink about bringing baby out in the winter. I have a 11 month old who I take out for short walks to pick up his siblings at school. I am asking because it seems like some people look at me like it is a horrible thing I have him out or if he cries it's like something they have never heard before!! I dress him well, so he is not cold. It just annoys me to see people talk about me like I'm doing something wrong!

I live in Toronto Ontario, It is cold but it could be alot worse! Yeah he is dressed appropriately and I want him to get the fresh air. He is not exposed to the wind because he is still in his rear facing carseat in the stroller which is covered up. I am going back to work soon so I wont have to take him out because he will be with his Grandma. But while I was home I am just taking care of my responsibility. He enjoys his walks and I dont believe the cold has bothered him. He is normally pretty quite but he will cry if I am out with him all afternoon and is tired of being in his carseat and probably getting hungry. those will be the days that he cries and people look at me so bad!
Thanks for the replies ladies it makes me feel better.

I don't know where you live but I know here in Alberta I don't have a choice but to bring my baby out. It's winter for 6 months, we can't be inside that long. I would just ignore them. Do what you feel is right, if your picking up your other kids from school obviously you managed to get them to that point without freezing them :)

If he's not cold I wouldn't worry. My biggest concerns would be 1) make sure he's always wearing something over his mouth like a scarf because the air is too cold for such a little thing to be breathing in, it can cause problems and 2) make sure to keep plenty of lotion on his skin so he doesn't get chapped. People are always going to look at you like you're abusing your kids no matter what you're doing, I wouldn't worry about it.

i don't see a problem with it as long as he is dressed well. i take my son out every day to and from daycare and also every day on the weekends for some fresh air. i try not to bring him out of days when it is really cold and windy, but unless its -20 or more i don't worry about it

just ignore them. last winter my son was only a few months old and i bundled him up and took him out every harm done, he was warm and toasty. kids need the fresh air no matter the age or season. this year my lo is now 14 months and he LOVES playing outside...cold or not :)

Sometimes you can't win. They give you looks because you bring the baby out, but if you let the other kids walk home alone they'd think you're a bad mom too. You know what's bets for your kids. Do what you need to do. As long as the little one is dressed warmly don't worry about it. As far as the crying they do it that in warm weather when they're outside sometimes too. Just ignore the looks.

It's not horrible. They need air just as much as anyone else. As long as your child is dressed for the weather, there is nothing wrong with it.
