Ya know, have have two boys, both boys just seemed to be hungry all the time and breast milk and formula just weren't cutting it. I started my first son on rice cereal, very little, when he was 3 weeks old. He slept all night long, whew. My second son I started on rice cereal when he was 6 weeks old, again very little, and again, slept all night. I gradually added more cereal to their bottles as they got older. I might mention that my boys are now 18 yrs and 11 yrs old, neither have digestive problems. My pediatrician who is on the board of a major childrens hospital, who has been in practice for over 40 yrs recommended, if they are hungry, "feed them". As your childs mother, only you can make the decision, so good luck.

well like Tamara said cereal is horrible. i dont really know why people feed it to babies. its your choice but my daughter screamed when i tried to give it to her. the first food i gave her was sweet potato , then some pureed carots pears and apples plus baby rusks with spreads on them this was when she was 3 and a half months. its whenever your child starts showing signs of wanting food or being ready to eat or is still hungry after formula/breast milk. in my case we gave it to her for extra weight gain

It seems to change everywhere. I live in Manitoba Canada and have been told by my doctor, public health nurse and the baby group i go to not to start before 6 months. I was told starting before 6 months can give them digestive problems. But it seems like in the States they say you can start at 4 months. I would check with a public health nurse in your area.

If you have a look at previous posts about starting babies on solids you will see that this is an extremely controversial issue! I started feeding all three of my kids a tiny bit of baby rice mixed with their usual milk from about ten weeks before their last bottle before bed and built it up very slowly from there.
