My grandson was not born with CMV but is now 9 mos. old and was just diagnosed. He contracted in day care or somewhere. Is anyone else familiar with this? I want to know if he will have the same difficulties as babies who have congenital CMV or if there is any difference .He has anemia and keeps getting sick, this is how it was discovered, he was just diagnosed and did not have it before June, according to Doctors. My daughter is going to pull him out of day care and find a nanny because he keeps getting sick in day care. She works full time, has a 3 year old too. Any info appreciated!

Keep up with the doctor follow-ups, if there are any cats in the house I would probably get rid of them. He will need extensive Antibiotic treatment. This virus comes from cat feces that I'm aware of.

Doesn't CMV come form Kitty litter? Cytomegolovirus? This is the only thing I have ever heard of it coming from and it should be treated with antibiotics. Any illness can continue to lower the immune system cause your child to become more ill or have frequent illnesses.

No, this is different. And he has had numerous blood tests which led to this diagnosis. The bloodwork shows CMV. That is how they came up with this diagnosis. She is seeing a hematologist.

He just keeps getting sick in day care. Is that because his immune system is weak?

She lives in another country. The Dr. told her it did not show up as a problem in his bloodwork until June

How do you know he did not have it at birth? I am adding a link to very informative site. I personally; as a nurse and a mother or four kids, will look outside the CMV diagnosis for the reason for his illnesses. Unless he was tested for CMV, you have no way of knowing when or where he got it. Kids in day care get sick, and as they develop immunity to one virus after another, they stop getting sick. If you GS has an immune system weakness, then look into that; don't just blame the CMV. CMV does not generally cause anemia, and I would be concerned about the origin of that issue. It may be simply dietary? Or something more significant.
