So before my husband and I got married I gave birth to my son who is now 5 months old and his father has only seen him maybe a handful of times but has disowned him and is on probation due to somethings that happened three weeks before my son was born and he is an addict as well as a drunk. He is back in Vermont and I moved out here to Arizona where my husband is stationed but I would like for my husband to be able to adopt my son and I don't know if he can do that without his father signing off his rights to him, if he has any at all because he isn't on the birth certificate, and I don't know how to go about getting that process started.. PLEASE HELP!! I want his biological father to stay out of the picture and not try to cause problems because he will as long as he knows that he is making my life difficult. He has two children and neither one of them mean anything to him other than the fact that he thinks that no matter what he will be able to go back to both of their mothers (myself and another female in NY) if he gets in a bind and has no place to live and needs money. I don't know what to do and what steps I can take to have my son adopted by my husband and if my sons biological father will pose a problem with that process if he has any rights .. :(

Yeah, different states have different laws on termination of rights and step parent adoption, so any personal advice you get from others who have gone through it may or may not apply to your specific situation. :)

I just want to do this as simply as possible without a bunch of drama and issues. But I agree I just want some feedback to see what the best thing would be for me to do and if any one has any advice on how to handle it.. I have no idea where to begin but I suppose a lawyer would be the best place to start
thank you :)
