My baby is just 18 days old and she is being breast fed. Earlier this week, we consulted a midwife since the baby was not having enough breast milk and she suggested to use some light infant formulas and we tried this after her breast feed ( not too much but 10 or 20 ml/feed) . there was a considerable change in BM and last time when she did was quite like a human poop, not liquid at all.. For the last 30 hours she didnt poop and having gassy when she tries to poo.. Is this quite normal? Does this need medical attention? please help ... as a first time mom, I am quite worried on this...

Check out this site. This is from our local Children's hospital, and my pediatrician gives us a giant packet with every newborn about a bunch of different topics, and this is one of the pages in it.

Belinda, Michelle, Thanks for your comments...
@Belinda, she is not completely having the formula now and for the last two days I stopped giving the formula to her. She is only having breast milk.. What worries is me like she has a very hard poop ( not liquid at all) on thursday.
@Michelle,that info is quite good. I was planning to go to a physician today to know more about this.

Quite normal. Your baby is taking the bottle after breastfeeding. Her little body is adjusting to the different mode she is in now. You know how it is when your body is in stress...your body has to adjust to it. Same as her. Formula does make the pooh change in color and in texture. Once she starts formula feedings, you will see that she will not pooh as often as she did during breastfeeding. It is normal. So, don't be alarmed. She is gassy... well, I will tell you something... when a person has gas, it can let you know that your colon isn't stopped up and it running smoothly. Look up about the colon. My son was having constipation problems and having gas. Well I have read that if you don't have gas and have air in your colon and the gas dont' come out, then you are more than likely to have a blockage. So, I guess when you have gas or have to fart...you should be happy...even though you have to hold your nose. At least when my son farts...it is horrible...He stinks galloorr.....
Well anyways, baby is fine.

If a baby is receiving formula and not pooping you should contact your physician. Not pooping at this point is only normal if the child is exclusively breastfed.
