Baby Moans Self to Sleep!!

My baby sometimes moans himself to sleep! I figure he either he doesn't really want to fall asleep or it is somehow comforting to him but when he is really tired and is fighting sleep he moans until he nods off! Not looking for advice as I've seen this before in other babies but now I am curious, how MANY babies actually do this??!!

I know of around 5 that I can think of off the top of my head. Well they dont actually moan, one does, the others have developed other "self soothing techniques" which is what your baby is doing. One rocks his head from side to side, one bangs his head on the mattress, the other two girls sit up and rock until they fall over asleep, I know another two who "sing" (could call it moaning I guess), how many was that??? I also know a 32 year old who taps her foot to put herself to sleep, she has done it since she was 2 months old. So I think it is fairly common, maybe we just dont hear about it much.

My daughter is 2 and has hummed herself to sleep since birth. I'm pretty sure it's a self soothing method babies use and it's normal :)

My son started at the hospital and still at 8 months old. He does it everytime he is really tired.

yes, both of my babies have moaned. I think it is pretty common. I have heard alot of babies like the sound of their own voice and they do that to soothe themselves.

My Anna went through a stage like this, although it was more like a moaning in her sleep kinda thing. I thought it was sort of hilarious! I don't think it's anything to be worried about, he's just discovering his voice and what it can do. It just only occurs to him when he's tired and wants to play without physically moving. Feel blessed that he's got a method of self-soothing that works for him!

Its comforting to him, my youngest daugther would moan/sing herself to sleep when she was younger. It was actually my que that she would be dead asleep real soon.

my daughter used to do that. Moan, coo, babble, etc as a baby, then as she got older I'd sit outside her door and she would talk until she fell asleep. She'd be like "gaa-gaa elmo gaa-gaa mama gaa-gaa zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"
