Baby Monitors

How long did you use yours? I'm going to be honest because I would love some feedback. We have a 2 year old and still use one. My husband told me this morning that I would sleep better if I just got rid of it. If you still use one at 2 why? I would like to stop using ours however our son’s sleeping patterns have been changing lately and I like to be aware when he's crying. I can be a deep sleeper so having the monitor can be helpful. I'm really just trying to get a feel for how many parents still use monitors with children who are 2 or even older. Am I alone? Thanks! :)

I personally don't use one and never did at night. My kids' rooms are right next door to mine. Our bedroom shares a wall with each of the other two upstairs bedrooms so I can hear them easily enough. The only time I used a monitor was if they were napping inside and I was outside with the other kids. Your husband may be right about the better sleep without the monitor. However if you're so concerned about not hearing him then you may get worse sleep because you're listening too hard. I think you should do what makes you most comfortable. You could try a couple nights without the monitor and see how it goes. You can always plug it back in if you need to.

i live in a 1 bedroom apartment and our son sleeps in the dining room on the other end of the apartment. we used the monitor for 1 month, when he first moved to the crib when he was about 1 month old. after that we got rid of it because we werent sleeping well cuz every little noise would wake us up. if your husband isn't a deep sleeper ditch the monitor and get him to wake you up if your son is crying

With my son, I stopped using it when he was about 1 - he was in the room next to us, so I could hear him if he needed me. With my daughter, however, the main bedroom here is separate to all the other bedrooms, so I couldn't hear her at night without the monitor, so I had it until she was about 2 1/2. I guess it depends how far away from you they are sleeping.

i used one with oldest tell he was one and now his two and a half he sleeps in a toddler bed and shears a room with his 8 month old brother and it back in there not just so i can hear the baby but so i can hear him to its nice to know your kids are safe. as long as you don't still have it in his room when he's in his teens it fine everyone is different and in tell you are ready to go with out leave it alone its not hurting anything being there
