I would love to get some baby names that are different, strange, weird, interesting, rare, new, old etc.... I have one son, 2.5 yrs old and his name is Zane (I picked it out when I was 10 years old (my brother and I decided to pick out names for our future kids and mine actually stuck) and I just loved the name Zane (it is Hebrew for John and my family is filled with John's (including my dad)) and when I was pregnant I just knew... that was his name! But Zane just doesn't feel different or rare (to me) at all which is fine, b/c it is his name and it just seems so fitting for him, but that is what I am looking for in the next name we choose. I want it to be ONE OF KIND... or VERY FEW OF A KIND, hahaha... Let me know ANY and ALL interesting, rare, different, weird, strange, unforgettable, one-of-a-kind and "I can't believe that's your" NAMES, hehe... whether you like it or not... even if you just made it up and think it sounds good (Hey, names gotta start somehow, right!).... boy or girl... old or new... anything and EVERYTHING... PLLLLLLLLLLEASE! :) POST 'EM!!!!

My Aunt's and cousin's names are Maria de La-Salete(Sa-let). We use Salete for my aunt and Lete for my cousin for short. It is a French name, which is strange because we are not French and my aunt was born 57 years ago in Portugal, where every girl was Maria something or other, but never Salete...my grandparents were way before their time!

My first son's name is Dade Elijah. My second son's name is Ronan Tobias. They are both fairly rare names, but not too strange.

I work in retail and recently had a baby so I was checking out people's names on their credit cards, signature pads, licenses (all legally, I promise) for inspiration. Robyn (Robin) Can you tell I have a thing for Ys? My name is Angie (Angela) and I guess I like the names that "hang down" with g-y-p, that sort of thing, makes the signature more interesting.

LOL. I did that too when I worked in retail. I found my hopefully future son's name that way. =] we got a girl so I didn't use it... maybe the next will be a boy.

My daughter's name is Deva (pronounced Day-V-ah); it is Hindi for Godlike. Everyone told me I was insane to name my daughter that, but once she was born they said they couldn't imagine another name that would fit her better.

I LOVE names from the 20's ... Lavinia is a favorite for a girl ... but I am the type who loves classic, elegant names. These may not be from the 20's, but they are definitely older names ...

Arabella
Christabel
Ophelia
Tabitha
Victoria (love the nn Tori or Toria)
Natalia (love the nn Tali or Talia)
Vivienne (ve-vyenne ... not vee-vee-enn)
Lyla or Lila
Dahlia
Collette
Delphine
Corinne (kuh-Rynn ... "light" on the kuh)
Daphne
Cordelia

Christoph
Leland
Mitchel
Llewellyn
Thackery
Paine (Payne)
Dale (though made popular by Dale Earnhardt)
Darius
Oliver
Grant
Phillip
Noel
Niles
Miles

There are so many others - if you do a search for names of the 1920's or even popular names of (pick a year/decade) you'll find some amazing lists. Best Wishes.

My husband and I are of Scotish descent. Our boys names are derived from surnames and popular Celtic names. Mackay and Magavin are the ones we chose, but also had in mind Maculden, Magnair, McKendan for boys. McKinnley, Makenzy, Makenna, Ianna (Ee-ahnnah),and Macrae for girls.

I see quite a few old names on here! Many of those just aren't common anymore. I have:

Anna Claire

Mary Magdalena (we call her Maggie)

Isabella Jean

Andrew Ryan

Some of the older names that I don't hear anymore are (boys): Silas, Franklin, Pierce, Amos (unless your Amish), Ulysses, Enoch, Abraham, Ira, Alonzo; and (girls): Minerva, Annette, Isadore, Polly, Susannah, Lillian, Emmeline, Ida, Beulah...and my most favorite.....my Gr-Gr. Grandmother was named Icie Pearl.

Irish or Gaelic names are very defferent. We almost used Siobhan (pronounced Sha-vaughan) as my daughters name because I loved the spelling of it, not to mention it is pronounced VERY differently from how it is spelled.

Quoting Kelly :

My son is called Kurt.
We wanted a uncommon name but one that wasnt unheard of. I have only met about 2 kurts in my life.
I was looking at Junior, deisel,Phonix for another boy something not so common either.
If we have a girl we are using Harmoney as there arent many of them out there. Trinity became to popular for us.

My Dad's name is Kurt too!

Well I named my children (two boys) Nico and Sage . There are not too many brothers with those names and they stand out in your head . So they are always remembered. Now they are 16 and 14 years old and very well known.

Try looking for names that were popular decades ago...chances are they are not now. We named our son Leein after his greatgrandfather but changes the spelling from Leon so people would pronounce it right (Leee- In)

My name is Jacinda which is farely uncommon. I named my daughter Karis (the a sounds more like a short e). It is greek (original spelling Charis) and means grace. I have not met anyone else with the name. I suggest, like others, looking at names in other languages and maybe changing the spelling so that it gets pronounced correctly. Hope this helps!

i named my son tristan because i liked it and thought it was different... In the past 10 months i have herd the name tristan quite abit lol i dont think that different names are that easy to get because once you name your child then it seems like alot of ppl are naming their kids that name... though i do have a friend named Kiana and she is the only person i have ever met with it

Maori names are pretty unusual outside of New Zealand, mine are names Mapera (meaning Mabel), Kaitereo (meaning "linguist) and we'll have another Maori name for the new one. Maori tradition is that children are named after an event or something significant that happened at the time of their birth.

My daughter's name is Tove, which means 'Beautiful Thunder' in Finnish. My son's name is 'Rykken,' which means Kingdom in German. Tove is named after Tove Jaansen, a children's book author and illustrator from Finland. She is fmaous for the Moomintroll Series. :)

We wanted something different as well and named our daughter Aletheia Rayne. It's pronounced Aly-thay-uh Rain which means One who is truthful and pure. Aletheia is Greek and I believe Rayne is Hebrew. Other meanings of Raine is Queen. The only thing that sucks about having different or uncommon names is that no one can pronounce it correctly. We get A-lee-thee-uh a lot which I totally hate.
