I am 29 years old, and a mother of a soon to be 12 year old son, and a soon to be 7 year old daughter. My husband and I are contemplating a 3rd child. Both of my children are super excited about the idea! My husband is 34, and he has expressed concern over the age gap between our children. Can anyone give advice on what age gaps are thought to be "too much"?

Hi I have 3 children 13, 4 and 1 year old daughters. I think as long as your all happy about it then there's never a too big age gap, warning thou baby will be super spoilt by it's big siblins :) but then why not!

Lacye Byars, thank you for your input! It is greatly appreciated! That's pretty much been my thoughts from when my husband and I started discussing baby # 3. My children both say they would love another sibling, and they are very loving children! My daughter just this morning said that NOW she wants a baby brother AND baby sister!! LOL I'm praying that the good Lord doesn't have that much of a sense of humor, and at least if He does, I'll be blessed with a minivan in the NEAR future!!! LOL I think my husband and I have decided that we're going to wait until after we go away for our anniversary trip in September to make our final decision. At least that way, we'll know that we've been thinking and praying over this decision for well over a month. I'm thinking my husband is definitely leaning toward having another baby since he's been coming up with possible baby names though. :) I'm so excited at just the thought!! Thanks again!!

I can give you advice as a child with older siblings with a huge age gap. It's interesting. My oldest sister is 15 years older than I am and the one between us is 8 years older than I am. The oldest acts more of a mother to me than a sister and her kids (the oldest being a year and a half younger than me) treat me more like a sister than an aunt. That part can be confusing sometimes, especially to people outside of the family. You wouldn't believe how many times I have gotten crazy looks when I say I have a 26 year old niece and I'm only 27 (about to be 28).

My middle sister and I fought like cats and dogs ALL THE TIME! I was a young kid and she was a teenager. The combination can be a pain in the ass at times. But now that all of us are adults, we don't have anymore problems. My oldest sister harasses me about my kids being the same age as her grandkids and my middle sister picks at me because her oldest daughter is getting close to the age where she can be trusted to baby sit. Of course it's always fun when they pick at me for almost being 30 (them telling me I'm getting old) and of course it's pretty freaking awesome that I can shoot back that at least I'm not the one pushing 50 (oldest sister is only 43 but it's still fun as hell to pick at her for it).

All in all, if this is something you and your husband really want to do, then go for it. Your kids will adjust the same way they would have if you had them closer together. At least you and your husband are being responsible about it and talking it over first instead of jumping head first into this.
