Hi All, i have started my little girl on some fruit and she loves it, so i tried her with a little rice also, i have introduced rice twice to her now but both time she end up being very unsettled and crying that same evening, i'm wondering is there anything else other than rice i could try her with, someone mentioned maybe brown rice?? any opinions??

Rice is empty calories and doesnt have any nutritional value. If you are trying to thicken the food for her then maybe try adding a little cornflour to the food to do this instead. If it is for the texture then try a different fruit or some vegetables for this. Rice cereal is easier to digest then fruit and vegetables, but maybe you could try a different cereal and see if this helps. Goodluck.

Cream of wheat is what my girls liked or maltomeal. Good luck and God bless!

It depends how hold she is. It is recommended to start with rice cereal because it is the easiest to digest and least chance of having an allergy to.

I agree that vegetables before fruits is a good idea though.

My son had digestive problems with rice cereal. I sought out cereals higher in fiber, like oatmeal and barley. I found he did much better on those. There is also differences between brands of cereal (excl. rice cereal which is only between 0-1g) in the amount of fiber. So you could try that.

I didn't introduce cereal to my daughter until 8-9 months. Starting with oatmeal, then barely, then wheat. I did try a little bit of rice cereal mixed with pureed meats or vegetables when she was older, but I mostly stayed away from it. I started with banana, avocado, carrots, peas etc. from 6-8 months.

I'm not a huge fan of rice cereal as a starter food. I didn't try brown rice, it may be a better alternative since it's higher in fiber. The problem with "white" rice cereal is that it's mostly all starch which is very difficult to break down.

How old is she?

You are better off making your own baby food because then you know what is in it. You should also start off with vege's instead of fruit. Once they get used to the sweetness of fruit it's harder to get them to like their vege's.

Mashed potato, pumpkin, carrots are all great to start off with.
