Hi.

My baby is 4 mos old. When he starts to eat cereal would i breastfeed him less? I'm trying to push out a surgery because i wont be able to breastfeed him while taking post pain medication. Right now I'm still feeding him every 3 hours.

Thanks,

Mama D

No, you should not be breastfeeding him less. Breastfeeding is where he will be getting his nutrition. Rice cereal will NOT give the nutrition he needs. In fact, if the only reason you are starting him on rice cereal is because of your surgery, I would say stop. I'm not sure how long you won't be able to breastfeed for, but you need to build up some pumped milk and freeze it, or you will have to supplement with formula, because rice cereal is not the answer nutritionally.
