Hi mums,
My 6 month boy is still not sleeping trough the night. He falls a sleep easily around 19:30/20:00 but then wakes up around midnight and again at 3 in the morning like his done sleeping and he screams and cries. Some days he wakes up almost hourly after midnight.
I've started him on cereal before bed time as recommended by the nurse at baby health-station, I've tried giving him his pacifier, water, cuddling, singling, rocking him, even tried a bottle of formula and one of expressed milk and nothing puts him back to sleep! Well my boobs put him to sleep ☺️ but doctor says I should avoid it, since by giving him the breast when he wakes up I'm turning his sleep dependent on that...
Anyone had a similar situation?
I asked the doctor what could be and he's answer was vague to say the least! He told me that it can't be food because I'm feeding him cereal before bed so maybe it's a phase...
I could do with all the ideas and help you might have, I'm very tired this as been going on for over a month now.

Just some background info. My baby was until now exclusively breastfed, I'm struggling to make him have anything other then my breast, he hates the bottles!

Listen to your baby... he is the expert on himself. Not someone that doesn't live w/ him. ;)

You know all the advice about 'listening to your baby's cries' to understand what they mean, so you can tell if they need fed or changed or cuddled or whatever? Well... my son's EVERY cry for the first 3 years of his life was a scream like he was being murdered (seriously... it was BAD), so I did whatever it took to keep the peace as much as possible... if that meant he was attached to my breast 20 times/day (under 2 years old)... so be it.

He won't be this little forever... I promise. ♥

Nurse him back to sleep. It's what you were both designed to do. He WILL sleep through the night when he is ready to do so (with or w/out a little encouragement), but there is NOTHING in the world wrong w/ a 6 month old nursing a couple of times through the night.

My son didn't sleep through the night til he was 2. Up until that point he nursed 1-5 times/night. He slept through when he was ready and he's an EXCELLENT sleeper now (for the past 5.5 years straight).

He doesn't need bottles (unless you have to be away from him) and he doesn't even need solids yet. All he NEEDS under a year is the breast. You can give a little bit of solids if he is ready and you can introduce a sippy cup, but do not worry what he does or does not take... as long as he is breastfed on demand he is fine.

When you say you have tried those things, how long did you try for? It can take a week or so for them to get out of the habit of waking up.
