i haven't experienced that but my son was tongue tied and it's when the frenulum that piece of skin that connects your tongue to the bottom of your mouth is connected too far forward, the dr said if we didn't get it clipped it could cause cavities and bad breath from not being able to sweep around the mouth and get all the food particles. it's just something you could ask your dr about.good luck

Are you bottle feeding her? I breastfed then bottle fed my daughters after 6months and I noticed that there breath went from sweet to bad shortly after the change. You might want to get one of the baby teeth brushing packs. I brushed the girls' teeth from the start, including their tongues, the paste you use is not like our toothpaste, so it is not bad for them and the little scrubber helps to stimulate their gums. It aids them in making it easier when they start teething and it also cleans their mouths and tongues to help get rid of the bad breath.

I would keep an eye on her. There are tons of viruses going around at this time of year. Make sure she stays hydrated, but there may not be much else you can do. My 4 1/2 month old is just getting over a cold, and the sour breath was my first clue. Good luck!

I haven't noticed any seriously bad breath issues with my 5mo old...but I do clean her tongue off every few weeks. I think of it as getting her ready for oral hygiene and it takes care of the white plaque-y build up she gets. I know my dentist always says to brush my tongue and I figure for the same reasons I should try to take care of my baby's tongue as well. I use a warm, wet washcloth and kind of play a game with her...when she opens her mouth-she often puts everything to her mouth anyway but when she opens her mouth I quickly and gently put the wet cloth in her mouth and on her tongue, press down gently and wipe it off. It works great and she doesn't mind it at all. It's become a sort-of regular habit of ours. I don't use toothpaste or any soap or anything at all on the cloth. I don't think it would be wise to experiment with any substance to help clean her mouth (get rid of bad breath) I just use warm water and a washcloth.

my 20 month old had bad breath for a while when she was around 7 months old.  i started freaking out and looked it up on the internet.  but nothing helped.  and then i realized that her breath was bad when she was sick.  and as a baby she was always getting sick.  but now she no longer has bad breath.  it should go away...

I have usually found that sour breath = sick kid. Has her behaviour changed? Is there a health nurse in your area you could call? I always worry if my kids' breath changes, especially if the smell is kinda sour.
