Bad kindergarten behavior

I'm at a loss. Our daughter has started kindergarten. In the 1st 3 weeks sheet has had as many bad or mediocre days as good days. She's had 3 notes sent home by the teacher in 3 weeks. Today's was the worst. "calling out several times, disrupting instruction. Refused to line up after recess. Threw writers workshop folder and did not follow instructions." my child is a free-spirited child-not unlike her momma at that age. She's very smart, very high energy, likes to be the center of attention, etc. We've spanked in the past but it does not work and I've always hated it so we're not going there. She's not particularly attched to anything, so I can't take something away really. When she has good days, we have rewarded her with praise, let her choose what we have for dinner, let her play outside after school, etc. On bad days I've tried having her write short sentences or words from her school work on her little chalkboard but I don't like punishing her with something that she needs to learn and that I want her to enjoy. So far nothing we've tried seems to work or be particularly effectiv. Ideas?

Have you asked her WHY she is doing these things? It is always good to have children reflect on their behaviour. Does she understand that you are disappointed in her behaviour (I find that when my kids know their behaviour has *disappointed* me, they react to that)?

I agree, don't use school work as a punishment, that's not a good way for her to feel positive about school. You don't want her to associate school work with negative discipline. Playing outside after school also shouldn't be a reward, that should be something she gets ALL the time if she is high energy.

Can you consider rewards of having a friend over to play? Does she play any sport? If she is high energy, this could be a good way of getting her involved in a team environment. What activities does she like to do at home? Are there special activities you can take away?
