Badly behaved in restaurants

I have a 5 year old and a 2 1/2 year old. When I have the 5 year old alone in a restaurant it is fine, both is brutal. I know that this is not uncommon. But does anyone have any tips or advice?

You need to let them know what you expect of them before you arrive. Pack plenty of things to keep them occupied and if they still misbehave give them a warning, if they misbehave again then they need to be removed immediately.

For our 5 year old and our almost 2 year old it's all about timing. We don't go on nights that it's going to be really busy, we call ahead so that our wait time is limited, we don't wait till the kids are really hungry, we pack snacks and drinks to hold them over in case it takes awhile to get food. Once seated we order as soon as the waitress comes over, if we order appetizers we ask that everything be put in at the same time. If they grow impatient while waiting for the food we play a video on the i-phone for them to watch. We eat as quickly as possible, as soon as the food comes we ask for the bill to pay so it's one less thing we have to sit around and wait for.

If either of the kids start acting up one of us goes outside with them until they are better, and if they don't settle down we ask for our food to be boxed up and we finish eating at home.

I'm assuming you take a bag with some toys, pencils, colouring books, etc?
