Yep, work out what time she must be up in the morning and count back to around 11 hours, and that needs to be your target bedtime. Start a routine about 1/2 hour earlier, it makes it easier. Make any consequences for bedtime arguments clear in advance and then follow through with those consequences every time. If she is struggling to wake in the mornings, she needs to go to bed earlier. If she likes to read before sleep, then have her go to bed a little earlier but have a clear lights out time.

Thank you for sharing your schedule - we have daylight and dark turned around. Yes....we have to be up in the morning but drag around and sometimes are barely making it to school. I am concerned by allowing this - it is setting up baddddd habits as one grows up! Google last night said 10 to 12 hours for preteen.

Consequences. My 9 year old goes to bed at 8:30 every night (she has to be up at 7), and there are no arguments because if there were, her consequences would be earlier to bed the next night. She'd also lose the privilege of watching TV before bed.
