It may be that your baby has not readjusted the fit of your nipple in to the new size of his/her mouth. I breast fed for over a year with each of mine as well and I noticed that as they got older, my nipples seemed to be more tender. I think it is because the nipple doesn't fit the same anymore. Make sure that when you are breastfeeding your baby is actually eating and not just suckling, using you as a pacifier. If you notice your baby is not actually eating, take him/her off immediately and just hold them close and let them play with a sippy cup in their mouth. It seems that it would be easier the bigger and older they are but it seems the opposite. Lanolin can help soothe them. I have found olive oil and coconut oil to also be of some help.
