Hello,

Need advice!! My 17 Y/O daughter has been gaining so much weight w her BC. She has been dating her BF for almost 3 years so when she came to me about BC I was a little upset at first but was glad that she felt that she could talk to me about it. She has been on the pill for almost 2 years. Her doctor keeps changing it because she also has a lot of problems w her cycle.
With this last pill it seems like she has really put on a lot of weight. She is crying about it every night and doesn't want to try on school clothes. My daughter has always been an athlete and has never been heavy. When she talks to her doctor about it she acts like its not a big deal (the doctor)
So now I am at a loss. She wants to stop taking it because of the weight but I don't want her to take the chance of getting pregnant. She is a senior in HS and has so much going for her!!! So it has become a daily struggle for us also (as far as fighting)

My question is what is a good BC that doesn't cause you to gain weight !!

Thanks!!

Thanks ! They just did a test at her last apt (which was last week) & it was negative. Trust me I always tell her about the 1% !! She will be 18 next month and is at that its not going to happen to me stage (UNFORUNATELY) right now!! I think we might change Drs and see if they have any ideas!! I was thinking the non hormonal IUD but I am not sure:////

Most of the time birth control pills do not cause weight gain. She could maybe look at doing other forms of birth control such as the shot or the implant, but those can cause issues with her cycle. I believe other then that then it would be the diaphragm and forms such as those. One thing you may want to do is have her do a pregnancy test just to make sure she is not preg. If her cycles have been off and she has been switching birth control she might be preg. Another thing to know is that just because she is on birth control does not mean she will not get pregnant. It does make the risk lower, but as someone once told me if you are that 1% then that risk for you was not that low.
