I have two part time jobs both dealing with children and I have one 4yro son. I stay at home with my little minion. We spend time reading writing doing math science art projects visiting this place and that place and we LOVE it. My son is infatuated with all things math.

My husband likes TV. My husband like violent swearing bloody TV. Video games included. But that is it. When our son asks for him to engage in any educational activities my husband replies with "that's something for your mother."

School work to my husband is like drinking cyanide. Therefore he uses learning as a threat almost. "IF YOU CANT SPELL THIS YOU WONT DO THAT" or "YOU CAN'T BEHAVE WE WILL WRITE THIS X TIMES AND YOU CANT DO THIS" etc.

I know there are shows like Team Umizoomi or CyberChase that is kid friendly but watching TV all day to me is just LAZY.

My son thinks the world of his father but his father shows no interest in anything other than the couch. How can I bring these two together?

Your welcome! My son really likes sonic, so that is the one that they play a lot together. IT is totally the opposite of the blood and gore, but its still "gaming" which my husband enjoys. Good luck!

Thank you Jessica

That wonderful call of duty is a unwanted thorn in my side as well. But finding a video game for both of them sounds fantastic! I will jump on that asap.

Maybe ask your husband if there is a video game that he would enjoy playing with your son that is appropriate. My husband likes video games as well, especially the lovely call of duty. My son does the school work, crafts, baking etc. with me. I have had the trouble in trying to connect my husband and son as well. But what we did was one hour a day they do something, whether it is a video game, watching a movie, or something else that my husband enjoys doing that is appropriate to do with my 5 years old son. Maybe you could try that. I figure, an hour a day is better then nothing. I am not thrilled about video games and tv, but at least they are bonding in their own way.
