At about 6 months old you can start giving baby a sippy cup to learn how to use. At this age your baby is not going to be drinking from the sippy cup well enough to use this as the sole source. At 6 months I would be using the bottle for his/her regular feedings and a sippy cup with some water in it to play with while you are eating. As your child gets closer to 12 months he/she is going to get better at drinking from the sippy. At 11 to 12 months you can start by switching out a bottle feeding with a sippy cup. Once they hit 12 months then the amount of milk they need goes down as they start to eat more table foods and get most of their nutrition from their food. So at 12 months having about four sippy cups of about 4 to 6 ounces is all they really need.
