I never sterilized the bottles. I washed them in the dishwasher or by hand with a bottle brush. Never had a problem.

I stopped at 6 months and from then on used hot soapy water and a bottle brush to clean them well. Some people only sterilize when they first take the bottles out of the package for the first time.

I stopped at 6mths as he could crawl around and start putting things in his mouth. But I did wash them in super super hot hot water, until 12mths, just to be sure.

In Australia, as of about 2 years ago, we are told not to steralise AT ALL, just to wash them in soapy water. However, I chose to steralise until my baby was 3 months old.

I was extra careful and sterilised until she was 12 months as it did not make sence to me that you could not give tap water until 12 months but you could wash the bottles in it. I had a micorwave steriliser so for the sake of 5 minutes I was supper safe!

i would say at maybe 6 months because they start producing some of their own immunities by then and they start sitting and crawling. by that time its hard to control what they pick up and put in their mouths. at least when giving a bottle you can have peace of mind knowing that it hasn't come in contact with anything on the floor. as long as you're washing your hands, i would think you're in the clear:)
