Boyfriend's mother is an alcoholic

I'm 9 months pregnant and I'm 20 years old and I work as a waitress. My boyfriend of 3 years is 19. The problem is that his mother is an alcoholic. She has taken thousands of dollars out of his bank account in the past couple of months. My boyfriend has tried to be nice to her and get back in touch with her. She talks very badly about my family that lives away from us. She says very hurtful things. Now, we have figured out that she has taken a thousand more out. There is a law where I live that says grandparents have rights for visitation of their grand child. We have a feeling that she took that money out to pay for her alcohol. I don't want her to have anything to do with my son that's on the way. I don't know if I'm just being selfish, but I don't want to risk her doing anything to my family.

I'm not sure why after the first couple hundred he didn't close the account and reopen one at a bank without her knowledge or her having access to it.

WHY does she have access to her ADULT sons bank account? That needs to change.

No you are not being selfish. It is your job to look after the health and well being of your child. Nobody else will do it for you. He/her health and well being HAS to come before anybody elses feeling. There is that grandparents law in a lot of states. She can sue for visitation but you have the right to prove that she is unfit until she gets sober and stays sober. Your boyfriend is 19... I have to ask. WHY is does she still have access to his checking account to be able to take that money??? Once a child turns 18 most banks will let then take their parent off their account without that parents permission if the child is stated as the main account holder or as a joint account holder. He really, really needs to look into that. Good Luck!!
