Boys playing with dolls

My son is going into the first grade and likes to play with "girl toys". Cousins and others tease him about it. He is an only child. I don't know what to do..

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a boy playing with girl toys as there is nothing wrong with a girl playing with boys toys though I find it hard to believe that no one says a thing about a girl playing with cars but can go nuts when a boy plays with dolls or housekeeping toys. Its normal for kids to be curious about different kinds of toys and to play with them. It is a fact that kids who get to play with boy/girl toys learn how to do things that are not geared to them and opens another facet of life to them too. Boys who play with dolls learn to nuture and be loving to a baby doll. It can later carry on into adult hood when they have their own children. Just as a girl playing with a tool kit becomes a mechanic. Its not right to put specific toys to girls or boys. They need to experience the whole world through play.

Do yo know the book William's Doll? I'm sure you could find it at the library. It's old, like from the early 70s, but your son might enjoy it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with boys playing with dolls and girls playing with trucks. How about you talk to the other adults in the situation and tell them to teach their kids how to NOT be bullies?

Teach your son to be strong and stand up for what he believes in.
