Yes you will need to hold it down and teach him to do the same. I have potty trained three boys and this is how they learn. He really can't stand and aim at this point and you will have even a bigger mess to clean.

Do yourself and a possible wife later a favor and have him sit down. :0)

I never had a mess aroun the toilet until step daddy taught him to stand. Damn it!! :0)

My son trained sitting and just learned to hold it down. He only sad for a few months then he was actually tall enough to stand to pee.

We are pting' our son right now and he's been great at sitting down, tucking it in and closing his legs. The first two or three times were a bit trial and error but it rarely makes a mess and it's perfectly comfortable for him. This is how we decided to teach him based on the polls I took before we started.

I don't have boys, just 2 girls. But I remember my brother always sitting on the toilet so my mom and dad had to have him hold his penis down.

I'm sorry I can't offer any other help. But the splash guard does sound like a good idea.

My son always preferred to stand.

I have heard that having boys sit backwards works too.

Do you have a potty with a "splash-guard"? I find that helps with my little guy.
