I just had my son on Monday and my nipples are sore and hurts when he latches on. How do I know if he's getting milk? Because he hasn't pooped at all today?

My little girl is 4 months and breast feeding so maybe my advice will help a little. She is my second. You don't need to worry about poop so much as long as he is peeing around ten times a day. He should poop every other day but I was told not to worry until like four days. My baby was latching fine on one side but not the other what helped was a nipple shield until she figured it out. It does hurt for a while breast feeding even if they are attaching correctly a couple of weeks and it is better. One of my friends told me you have to be determined, she was right! Good luck I hope I helped and congratulations!

At that age, as long as he is putting out 8-10 wet diapers, there really is no concern about pooping. Often bfed babies won't poop daily.

As far as latching, i would have a lactation consultant help you out. My son was doing the same thing, and he was not latching properly, but still getting plenty of milk. The latching wrong made him work harder, and it hurt like hell.

I doubt he's constipated. So he hasn't pooped at all this week or just not today? If he's been pooping this week, then he'll probably have one soon. How about pee diapers? Definitely check his latch.

The lack of poops is concerning. Diapers is how you know he's getting enough. Tell me about your nursing-how often are you nursing? On cue or schedule? Any timing? Jaundice? Checked for tongue tie?
